We do all kinds of things to keep ourselves entertained. Since we live in a digital world, most of our entertainment reaches us digitally. The most popular forms of entertainment these days are movies and TV shows, and the reason why we say this is because these are the most consumed form of entertainment.

The Ever-Growing Video Game Industry

However, no form of entertainment can compare to video games these days. Mainly because the video game industry is one of the fastest-growing industries. Video games are constantly evolving, and this consistent growth has allowed people to get addicted to them. Recent factors such as the COVID-19 lockdown have also propelled the video game industry.

Factors Motivating People to Play Video Games

Like there are different genres in movies, video games are also divided into types and playing ideologies. The general aspect that motivates people to play video games is the idea of escaping reality. Feeling a need to break free from their monotonous schedules also adds to it; however, that is not the only reason why people are addicted to video games.

An Overview of Strategy Games

There are different reasons why people play video games, and personal development is among the things that fascinate most people. All these different types of video games serve other purposes for gamers; for example, role-playing games allow you to take any identity and help you go on a quest of self-exploration. However, the type of video game that we will talk about today is strategy games.

There are numerous benefits of playing strategy games; one of the main reasons people play strategy games is that they help us develop our intelligence.

Strategy games allow us to stimulate our cognitive capacity because the minute we start playing these types of games, our brain starts exercising. Thinking strategically also helps us improve our mental agility.

While playing strategy games, we exercise our brain by thinking strategically, and since these games stimulate our cognitive capacity, we get increased mental agility.

Numerous strategy games have been developed, but all strategy games aren’t the same, and sometimes most of them don’t provide you with the experience you’re looking for, so we bring some of the best strategy games that will enhance your thinking skills.

However, you must remember that this list does not target a specific gaming device, and you will find a mix of different gaming devices.

Battleships

Earlier, we were talking about a brutal strategic game, and to balance things out, we now bring you this fun game. This one is definitely going to appeal to casual strategy game fans. Battleships is a brain-twisting strategy game developed by Unlimited Gamez Mo; it keeps you coming back for more and doesn’t let you quit till the last second. The game has some of the simplest yet beautiful graphics.

You can play Battleships on two different boards of 10×10 grids, and the players have to place their ships on these boards. On each turn, the opponent has to guess the location of that hidden ship. Each player gets a chance to hit the opponent’s ship, and once the player misses, the other player gets the same opportunity. The game ends once a player has sunk all of the opponent’s ships.

Starcraft 2

Starcraft 2 is one of the best strategy games ever, and the reason why we say this is because the game has so much more to offer than any other ordinary strategy game. The game was initially developed in the ’90s, and it has been remastered throughout the years.

It is a classic base-building PC game that revolves around cowboys, aliens, and other space creatures. The gameplay needs you to be quick and intelligent as you would have to gather resources, build armies and destroy your enemies before they do the same to you.

Starcraft 2 is a multiplayer game, and a fascinating thing about it is that it still is in the competitive scene and has some of the best online servers.

The game has a steep learning curve, and it is going to be challenging for you if you want to master the game. The game also has an addictive PvE campaign that keeps you hooked if you don’t feel like playing online.

Plague Inc.

The strategy game on our list is a free mobile game available on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store. You must have guessed from the name that the game revolves around a plague. However, many people make a mistake when they first hear the word is that they assume that the game is about defending humanity from a plague.

The game plays out as you have to create a pathogen and work to spread it throughout the world; trying to infect the world as a whole gets you more rewards in the game and allows you to level up. The game involves realistic simulation, which means that your in-game decisions are going to affect your gameplay, and honestly, it is one of the best features of this game. The game also has dark humor and over five regions to play in, all that adds to the fun.

XCOM: Chimera Squad

The XCOM: Chimer Squad is a part of the long-beloved PC game series XCOM. This is arguably the most brutal strategy game and is not for impatient and weak people. XCOM: Chimer Squad is an incredibly fast-paced game, and generally, casual strategy fans are not fond of this game.

You have to spend a lot of time on the game to get familiar with it and master the controls, but once you do that, you get more addicted.

The reason why many gamers love this game is that it has a factor of unpredictability. The game lands you in a guerilla war against invading aliens. Like all strategy games, you can build and customize your characters, abilities, weapons, and general in-game tactics.

Northgard

If you love games like Age of Empire and Civilization, you will love Northgard as well, as the game brings you the same concepts with a fun and unique twist. The developers believe in build and bash tradition, so they have made the game Viking-themed. This PC game has extremely well-designed campaign missions and a thrilling skirmish mode.

The game allows you to experience creatures like armored bears, Vikings, wyverns, and shield maidens;  if this doesn’t sound exciting enough, then there’s one more thing you will love. The game allows you to trade monsters and build your clan according to your playstyle; the game is a perfect combination of a war game and a building game.

Ending Note

These are some of the best strategy games that make you more innovative. The best part about all of them is that you will have fun while you exercise your brain. Building strategic skills have become crucial in today’s world. Playing such strategy games can help you build those skills-focused and cost-effectively.
