27 April 2015 – Pioneering technology services company telent Technology Services Ltd is using next month’s Railtex conference and exhibition in Birmingham to unveil two vital components of the development of the digital railway – its new PRAESUM traction power SCADA system, being adopted by Network Rail, and the UK’s most widely implemented station control system, MICA, which is being used throughout the UK to control station security and information systems and will demonstrate for the first time a prototype of its media management functionality. Also on show will be telent’s new ACUMEN asset condition monitoring system.
Visitors to the telent stand – L31 – will be able to see the PRAESUM system in action for the first time. As well as PRAESUM, MICA and ACUMEN, telent will also have on display its asset management maintenance system TRAMMS and a whole portfolio of products and management solutions that also help deliver the digital railway.

telent has over 30 years’ experience of delivering and maintaining railway communications systems covering systems integration, consultancy design, project delivery and asset management for all rail communications systems.
The MICA (Management Integration and Control of Assets) system uses interchangeable drivers with standard interfaces to manage new assets, legacy systems and other building applications. The share of the nation’s stations, mainline and underground, using MICA continues to increase rapidly and now more than 100 UK stations use the system.
The latest enhancement to MICA embraces Wi-Fi in order to go mobile, enabling MICA’s existing capability to be assessed by station staff via hand-held devices, such as iPads and iPods, from anywhere in the station. This leaves staff free to leave the office and move around the station, to speak to and assist customers whilst remaining in complete control of station systems at all times – whether to play a service update announcement, alter information displays or keep an eye on the crowds from any of the CCTV cameras. Other than hand-held devices and Wi-Fi coverage, MICA mobile requires no additional equipment, works with existing systems, and is on test at stations already.
