(Fornebu, 27 June 2012) Ove Fredheim was today appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Telenor in Serbia. Fredheim will take up the new position on 1 September, succeeding Kjell-Morten Johnsen, who became Head of Telenor’s European operations and member of the Group Executive Management earlier this year.

“It is my great pleasure to announce that Ove Fredheim will assume the position of CEO Telenor Serbia.  Ove has long experience from the CEE region, both from Hungary, Ukraine and Montenegro. I am confident that with his knowledge about the region and the extensive experience from the telecom industry, Ove can strengthen and further develop Telenor’s position in Serbia,” said Kjell-Morten Johnsen, Executive Vice-President, Head of European operations.

Telenor obtains new 4G licence

(Fornebu 27 June 2012) Today Telenor’s and Telia’s Danish joint venture, TT-Netværket P/S, has obtained a licence to build a 4G network in the wide-range 800 MHz frequency band. The 800 MHz licence is a major step on the way to creating Denmark’s best network.

Telenor’s and Telia’s joint Danish infrastructure company, TT-Netværket P/S, has acquired 2×10 MHz spectrum in the 800 MHz frequency band. That became clear when the Danish Business Authority’s frequency auction closed late yesterday. The 800 MHz frequency is well suited to ensuring a broad 4G rollout because a 4G mast will have a much wider range if this frequency is used.

This year, nine out of ten Norwegians will have 3G coverage where they live

(Fornebu, 1 June 2012) Telenor is intensifying its 3G expansion. In the course of 2012, 90 per cent of Telenor’s mobile telephone customers will have 3G coverage where they live, and further expansion will ensure coverage for 95 per cent of its customers.

In particular, Telenor is improving its 3G coverage in towns and cities and is building new 3G stations where there is currently only 2G. The company is also well underway with expanding the next generation mobile network – 4G.

“The Norwegian people’s use of mobile phones has changed dramatically. Now more than 55 per cent of mobile phones in Telenor’s network are smartphones, and by the end of 2012 we expect that figure to have increased to 70 per cent. Telenor’s mobile network ensures high speeds and good capacity when people are surfing the net on their PC, tablet or mobile phone. Customers need to be sure that we offer the best coverage, quality and capacity, both now and in the future. That is why we are focusing on 3G expansion,” says Berit Svendsen, managing director of Telenor Norway.
