According to India specific data revealed by Google Zeitgeist 2010, the top ten fastest growing search terms originating from India were as follows:

This year it seems people realized that booking their railway tickets online was much easier and convenient than going through booking agents or standing in long queues at the railway station. Micromax, a relatively unknown brand last year, definitely came to prominence this year with its host of low-cost mobile phones portfolio — and aggressive advertising.
This was the year of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, a fact reflected by people’s growing interest in Google Zeitgeist’s fastest rising search terms. Facebook continues to be the top destination for social networking, although Twitter also made its presence felt lower down the list. YouTube videos seemed to have become the preferred destination for Indians for watching online video.
Google India Zeitgeist for 2010 also released the top ten list for the most popular search terms in India, as follows:
1) Songs
2) Facebook
3) Google
4) YouTube
5) Yahoo mail
6) Gmail
7) Yahoo
8) Nokia
9) Orkut
10) IRCTC
Some of the popular searches also feature in the fastest rising search terms. People did a lot of “song” based searches on Google this year, also many visited Yahoo mail and Yahoo through Google.
