Three-fold performance boost, greater flexibility and resilience allows Mayden to find new and innovative ways to help its healthcare customers deliver psychological therapy services.
Previously the system was hosted within a co-located private cloud environment. Mayden made the decision to move to a cloud platform that would be better able to support its continued growth, and that would also offer a combination of enhanced performance and greater resilience as well as the flexibility to evolve the solution in the future.
As you would expect with a system that stores the records of over 4 million patients, Mayden went through a rigorous selection process when selecting a new hosting partner. Of the local and global cloud service providers that Mayden considered, UKCloud Health stood out not only for its in-depth understanding of the healthcare market, but also the breadth of its multi-cloud expertise.
As a company with ISO27001 certification for its information security, Mayden was determined to find a partner organisation whose information assurance and data security standards matched their own. With UKCloud Health’s significant assurance credentials, including certifications for ISO27001, ISO27017 (security of cloud services) and ISO27018 (security of personal data in cloud environments), this clear and evidenced capability made UKCloud Health an obvious choice for the Mayden Team. Being an early adopter of the recently introduced NHS DSP (Data Security and Protection) Toolkit was also particularly relevant to the healthcare sector within which Mayden operates. UKCloud Health’s UK sovereign status, which ensures that customer data never leaves the UK, further supported their assessment and provided clear advantages to elements of GDPR preparations being undertaken by Mayden.
“Our life’s work is changing what’s possible for clinicians and patients through digital technology and our team is focussed on constantly evolving and improving our software and the level of service that we provide to our healthcare customers. We have exciting plans for developments over the next few years, which – in partnership with our clients – could truly revolutionise the way mental health services are delivered and experienced by patients. A new, flexible and highly scalable infrastructure forms the foundation of that work,” explains Chris Eldridge, Mayden’s Director of Operations.
“We need a cloud provider that is equally dedicated to cloud services and the service levels that it provides to us. The level of attention and support that the team at UKCloud offered us throughout the setup and migration process was exceptional. They have shown a genuine interest in us as a business, investing time to understand our specific requirements and have made us feel like a partner rather than a customer. We were hopeful that the move would improve the performance of our platform, but a 3x improvement in speed surpassed our expectations. In UKCloud Health we found a supplier that was not only just as dedicated to service levels as we are, but also shared our specialist focus on the healthcare sector. The more we got to know the team at UKCloud Health, it became apparent to us that theirs was a company that also shared our community ethos, with a culture and values similar to our own. In many ways it was the perfect fit. This move was without doubt the right decision for our team and our product moving forward, and we are beyond grateful for the level of support that we have been shown during the process, from both our clients and our new hosting partner. We are very excited about what this new partnership will mean for all of us,” added Eldridge.
“It is almost a year since the launch of UKCloud Health as a division of UKCloud with a dedicated focus on the health and care sector in the UK, and we have already seen a significant wave of migrations into our secure multi-cloud platform,” added Simon Hansford, UKCloud CEO. “It’s great to see market-leading healthcare solution providers, like Mayden, join us due to our health sector expertise and customer service excellence. However, it is especially refreshing to welcome Mayden, given that its community ethos and focus on training and charitable work so closely align with our own.”
Both firms operate charitable foundations and focus on developing technology skills in the UK. The Mayden Foundation was established in April 2010 as a not-for-profit charity with the aim of utilising Mayden’s skills and expertise for pro bono web projects on behalf of charitable organisations, and to provide a vehicle for the company’s charitable giving. On top of this, the Mayden Academy was established in 2015 to provide a unique, employer-led intensive training opportunity for entry level software engineers, based at the organisation’s offices in the centre of Bath, with a mission to kick start people’s careers in coding and to develop a pool of talent in the local area to help support the growing tech industry.
Similarly, in 2014 UKCloud created the UKCloud Foundation to support its beliefs in demonstrating social responsibility, being charitable and serving the wider interests of society. The Foundation provides the framework for UKCloud and its employees to give something back to the community and those within it. UKCloud also focuses on developing local technology skills. It recently announced that it has seen a record intake of undergraduates into its intern programme (16 in 2017 vs 7 in 2015) which offers skills opportunities for placement students across key topic areas including marketing, technology and product development.
