Three Films Chronicle IBM’s Century of Innovation

ARMONK, N.Y. – 10 Mar 2011: IBM is marking its 100th year as a company of innovators and inventions through a series of documentary films that chronicle the ways in which the company has changed the world through scientific and technology achievements and the “IBMers” who have been behind those breakthroughs.

The three films take the viewer on a series of journeys through IBM’s past, present and future. CTIA-The Wireless Association® Statement on the Introduction of the Wireless Tax Fairness Act of 2011

WASHINGTON, DC – After a bipartisan group of more than 140 co-sponsors in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives introduced the Wireless Tax Fairness Act of 2011, CTIA-The Wireless Association® President and CEO Steve Largent released the following statement:

“On behalf of the wireless industry, and more importantly wireless consumers, we appreciate the support of the more than 140 co-sponsors, led by Representatives Lofgren and Franks and Senators Wyden and Snowe, to put a five-year moratorium on the discriminatory taxes and fees levied on our consumers. This freeze would not take away any existing revenue for state and local governments, but would provide time so the localities can reform their existing tax systems.

IBM and Progress Energy Team on Extensive Smart Grid Deployment

ARMONK, N.Y., – 10 Mar 2011: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that it has been selected by Progress Energy as the lead systems integrator for the utility’s smart grid program. Together the companies will transform Progress Energy’s networks by improving power efficiency, increasing power quality and reliability, and enhancing capabilities for renewable energy, energy storage systems and plug-in electric vehicles.

Progress Energy is investing approximately $520 million dollars in smart grid technologies through its two utilities that serve approximately 3.1 million customers in the Carolinas and Florida. The total investment includes $200 million from a smart grid grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

HP Collaborates with Leading Researchers to Identify Security Threats at Pwn2Own Competition

HP today announced the opening of the fifth annual Pwn2Own competition, in which security researchers reverse engineer software and devices to identify vulnerabilities in many of the most popular consumer products, including leading internet browsers and mobile phones.

The contest, which HP Digital Vaccine Labs (DVLabs) has sponsored since its inception, is taking place at the 12th annual CanSecWest conference in Vancouver, Canada, March 9-11.
